Irrigation

Water is one of the most precious resources in Southern California, with droughts and high water prices being a facet of living here.  Efficient irrigation practices allow prodcuers to conserve limited water supplies and potentially save money and help with local conservation. Maintained drip irrigation systems, regular distribution unifority tests, upgrades to a water system, and water effecient farming practices can dramatically reduce water waste. 

Local agencies and agricultural organizations offer training, cost-share programs, and technical support to help farmers make the transition. These programs are like our very own WETA program which offers technical assitance, irrigation effecieny testing, and pump effeciency testing. The NRCS also hase the EQIP program which can offer money to upgrade a water system and provide technical assistance as well.

The NRCS has grreat resources on Water Effeciency and Landscape design, they are continuing a program this upcoming year called "WaterSMART", which allows producers to recieve money for water effeciency upgrades, you can find out more on this here, and watch the video below for more information on organic water management:
